Body Worn Video Steering Group
Footage taken by an officer’s body worn camera of a shooting in Daytona Beach has been released, which shows the moment cops fired 6 times on an ex-NFL player apparently attempting to stab his girlfriend.
The footage shows former New York Giants recruit Jermaine Green holding his girlfriend at knifepoint, before bringing down the weapon in an apparent attempt to stab her.
The two officers at the scene fired on Green 6 times, shooting him in the hip, abdomen and right arm, while his girlfriend Katrina Johnson was also hit with a seventh bullet in her right arm.
Authorities are investigating whether officers Richard Maher and Kevin Connelly were justified in opening fire during the incident.
The Daytona News-Journal reported that although Johnson’s wound was not serious, she has threatened to sue the Police Department over the shooting.
The body worn camera footage should prove crucial in the outcome of both the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings that Jonhson may take, once again proving that the cameras can be an invaluable asset to any officer in situations of conflict.
