Funding for the body worn cameras was secured by PC Washington to be used by Sutton’s community safety unit when responding to domestic violence crimes.

Your Local Guardian reported that the cameras have “contributed to improvements in reporting, detections and convictions because they capture the injuries and distress caused to the victim in a way a written report cannot.”

PC Washington added that they “help us to give a better service to local residents. This is evident in our victim satisfaction figures which show that Sutton is the best performing borough in the Met Police.”

The continued success of the equipment in Sutton is likely to see the adoption of body worn cameras across the rest of London.
